You can see from looking at the scoreboard what exactly was going on—game tied at 61 between Concordia University and the College of Idaho, 0.7 seconds left on the clock, with the winner securing a berth in the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
Heady stuff to say the least.
With such little time on the clock, Concordia forward Danielle Clauson was stationed underneath the Idaho basket, ready to inbounds the ball in the hopes that one of her teammates could get off a last second prayer of a shot. That was her plan at first, before she decided to win the game herself with a tremendous trick play that was as much risk as it was reward.
Clauson pulled off the old “inbounds pass off the defender’s back” play to perfection, bouncing the ball of the Idaho player’s backside before putting up the 10-foot jumper for the winner.
The ensuing bedlam seems only appropriate.
